RV Maintenance

4 Steps to Protecting Your RV From the Winter Elements

Temperatures are dropping, and it’s time to consider protecting your RV from the cold air, snow, and ice in store for the months ahead. The exterior of your RV will face challenges in the winter season that need to be addressed to avoid unnecessary wear and damage. MobileRVService.com understands the importance of maintenance to ensure the longevity of your RV, which is why we have created a network of service providers. Follow along as we go through four ways that you can protect your RV from the harsh winter elements.

1. Keep Your RV Clean

Thoroughly clean your RV from the inside out, and carefully remove any accumulated salt. Our service providers offer interior and exterior cleaning, which will help prolong the time between major repairs. They can wash, wax, and detail your RV to remove the buildup of any corrosive residues and prevent further wear.

2. Take Care of Your Tires

Tires tend to lose air in cold weather, so it's important to keep the tires on your RV filled to the pressure level recommended by the manufacturer. Check the pressure and add air as needed, or one of our service providers can do that for you. You'll also want to keep the wheel hubs and bearings clean to prevent corrosion.

3. Seal Your Windows

Take a look at your window seals and exterior seams, and check for signs of wear or any indication that air or moisture could be getting through. You can use special sealants to prevent water and air intrusion into your RV. If you plan to store your RV, you can cover your vents for added protection.

4. Protect the Battery

Before you store your RV for the winter, you should consider disconnecting the battery to keep it in a climate-controlled location. You don't want to leave your battery vulnerable to freezing temperatures, which could cause damage and shorten its lifespan. You could also use a trickle charger to help your battery maintain a charge during the offseason.
